Very interesting about the microbiology of the land! I was never able to grow tomatos to any great size: in Las Vegas they ripened at very small sizes as soon as the summer heat came in, while in Thailand we had too many chickens for them to even start growing! I've never trusted my skills at mushroom gathering: I don't know how many times I've seen some wild mushroom that looks identical to some other wild mushroom my husband had harvested before where he then says "no no cannot eat that one!" Familiarity with the land helps a lot though...

Reading that you don’t use indoor grow lights for peppers/tomatoes was interesting. I use them for the first month or so, then move everything to my greenhouse when temps are warm enough.

If you start outside in your greenhouse, do you also have to watch the nighttime temps carefully? Seems like a tomato/pepper growing in the chilly spring temps in a greenhouse would really struggle?

Good morning! If you go back to the October 24th issue I have a description of my seedling greenhouse. It is a very special structure. I think you will enjoy reading about it. God bless your efforts!

I am not yet a Gardner but I am an avid collector of information about Gardening. We uprooted out family from city life and moved cross country to our hometown in Ohio. We have plenty of room for a garden but it seems intimidating. I enjoy reading your Gardening Sub-stack very much and look forward to your exhortations even more. We will move towards gardening Lord willing slowly but surely soon. Thank you for your time and encouragement.

Start out very small. Most people take on too much and get overwhelmed. I can take most people's gardens and make them 1/6th to 1/12th the size and get better quantity and quality. This winter I will, Lord willing, take you through the whole planning and development process. God bless your efforts!

Loving your newsletter. I get garden knowledge and am always very encouraged with your faith building parts!

What is the extent of the advantages of planting perennial varieties over annuals? I like the thought of them coming back every year, that they have more nutrition from bigger root systems. I'm assuming then that they also help build the soil and foster good microbe habitats.

Yes these are good thoughts you are having. Because I do a lot of foraging I tend to harvest from many different wild perennials. I do have different perennials in the garden, and I keep expanding that. But they are all part of the diversity you need. There are microbes that favor perennials and others that favor annuals. Keep learning and adding things as you can.

Thank you for the encouragement. God bless your efforts!

Hi Craig. These newsletters are fabulous!! I especially am learning more about float fishing. I learned my fishing lessons well, as a kid, but you’re opening a whole new world of information for me. I will visit the website you suggested for purchasing floats. (Hope they have information on which ones are best for bluegills, etc. of course, love the ministry you have incorporated in the newsletter along with reinforcing the gardening knowledge you’ve taught me.

Hello Gail. I would be glad to set you up with some good floats for bluegill. In fact you live close enough we need to go fishing next spring. 😊

Thank you for the encouraging words. God bless you!
